I have decided to switch to a different service, so if you want to keep reading about my stitching adventures go here:

Additional Flat Fold Info
10.27.05 (3:49 am)   [edit]
Ann asked: I have one question on the flat fold. I understand that you glue the cord around the front flap and tie the loose ends with a bow? How do you go for the back flap? Is it the same cord?

The bow is just for added effect, you could trim the cord and glue the ends down if you desired. The cording on the back side is attached in the same manner as the front. I started with a separate piece of cording and glued the end down then wrapped it around the outside edge and glued the other side in place.

One thing I strongly suggest would be to use ribbon between the front and back to keep the project from collapsing. Ribbon is more easily attached w/ glue. I had a devil of a time attching the piece of cording, but I didn't have ribbon, so I improvised. :)

I'm glad you all are finding this project explanation helpful, let me know if you have more questions. :D

Let's Have a Redo!

Okay, I had problems w/ the place hosting the flat fold site...let's just NOT go there...

So I got a whole new site that should let you access it no problems. Also try the link to the big pic of the Be Thankful cube, you will need to scroll down and click on the smaller pic to see the larger version. I apologize for all the troubles. Enjoy and thanks!

And for Barbara, who doesn't believe in the Great White Pumpkin  Here is a link so that you all can see I'm not going daft. :D

Barbara is right though that white pumpkins are unusual and it's only recently that they've been on the market around here. I think that the white color gives them a certain "spooky" aspect.

Flat Fold Tutorial
10.25.05 (4:23 am)   [edit]
and Turkey Day! :D I finally finished my flat fold tutorial! I used Scary Stack and made it into a flat fold. It took a bit of preparation and thought, but I figured out how to make it into a flat fold. Here is the link if you want to follow the steps I used: http://institches.zap3x.com/m...

Here is a finished pic of Scary Stack flat folded.

I also finished up Be Thankful into a cube. It turned out great, although a bit large. But it's a large project soooooo...

I am nearly finished with Golden Autumn. This picture is from last Friday...

I decided to change the colors, as I wanted something different. I love white pumpkins and find them very unique, so I decided to switch the colors around so I'd have a white pumpkin w/ the turkey in the middle. I plan to make this into a nice pillow when I'm finished. I found just the perfect fabric so it should be a lot of fun!

Greg got his Never Enough Time Clock all together and wanted me to give it an aged treatment. So I painted it red, then crackled black paint over it.

Go here and scroll down to see a close up of the paint:

And here is Greg's current project the Calla Lillies:

I think this is looking so pretty! And he's getting it done fairly quickly too!

I had a busy weekend, with all the finishing and I dyed up another round of fabric. I wanted some smaller counts to work on and had run out of the orangey/yellow fabrics as well. It seems we like that color a lot. :) The weather has turned off cold and now it looks like autumn, which is great! I'm ready to snuggle down and have some hot cocoa!

Stitching Blogger's Question
10.20.05 (3:51 am)   [edit]
Do you mark or hi-lite your patterns or can you follow them without any markings? Do you make copies to mark up, or do you mark originals?

I always make a copy of any pattern I'm going to use. If it's in color I scan and print it out in color. If it's tiny print I'll blow it up, anything to make it easier to read. I prefer to use colored pencils to track where I'm at on a copy of the pattern. It's just easier for me as I get easily distracted and lose track then it's a big mess. I don't want to mess up the original as I like share or resell the patterns.

:D Be Thankful is finished! (insert happy dance) I can't believe I managed to get it all completed last night. I must have had a fire under my fingers! Whatever it was, I am glad it's done so now I can move onto my second TDay project!

Here are a couple of pics:

I am definately going to cube this one and I think I even have a long cube ready that will fit this...if I trim it close. I LOVE Bent Creek projects they are so quick and satisfying to stitch, they always turn out so adorable. The next one I'm working on I will most likely turn into a pillow, as that's what they did w/ it on the cover of the pattern. It should be a quick stitch, although a bit boring as it's only 4 colors.

Greg is now working on a Calla Lily project for me and here is an update pic:

It's a bit tricky to see the colors right now, but it has a nice backstitching around it that will help bring it our and a lot of green behind most of the flowers. It's so pretty already, I'm so excited to see how it turns out as Calla Lillies are my second favorite flower (sunflowers are the my all time favorite). I can't help but gush over Greg's stitching, he just does the prettiest work!

Now I will have to run out and get that Turkey fabric that I saw so I can do my cube! This is the fun part of stitching finding cute things to finish off the project. And (for those that care) Hobby Lobby is having a big sale on their Halloween and Fall stuff this week... (hums) shopping, shopping, shopping...

A Quick Stitch
10.17.05 (11:24 am)   [edit]
:D That's what my newest project is turning out to be! I am glad too, as I have a couple more Thanksgiving projects I want to do asap. A couple of people commented on how many things I posted last time, well I have to laugh cuz it's easy to find a lot of things to post about when you have two stitchers in the house. Some of the things I posted Greg had been working on a long time and I had just gotten around to finishing. :) And I will admit that the stuff I've been working on recently is easy to stitch. All I can say is Hooray for easy projects!

Here is the update on my current stitch:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Can you believe how much I got done in the last few days! It's amazing! Greg commented that I've got a headless turkey on my project, and I laughed and told him that's the only way I like to eat them... (okay bad joke...)

The next two projects are Greg's! This first one is a clock he's been trying to get finished. He just found this shadow box that he will use for the clock, this is a test fit. The smiley face mug is from my 5 and 4 year old nieces, they gave it to Greg...what did I get...NOTHING. What can I say, they LOVE Greg and I'm just boring Aunt Kim. Do I sound bitter?

And this last one is a cute Halloween frame we found on sale and Greg stitched this mini version from my Scary Stack to put into it, I still need to cut it and put it in the frame...

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for a look and for all the nice comments! I freely admit I am a lurker on most of your blogs, I just don't always have time to leave comments, but I am working on that. :)

It's Flying By!
10.13.05 (4:21 am)   [edit]
October that is! I can't believe it's already the middle of the month, so much I wanted to get done and it's just not going to happen. :( Oh well, them's the breaks and now onto other bigger things! :)

I finished up Lost Spirits and turned it into a wall hanging...I would've liked to have framed it, but space wise this was a better choice. I love the fabric I think it really compliments the project. The thing I love is that I showed it to a couple of friends and they thought it must've been so hard to stitch w/ all the color changes. I had to explain that the threads I used do that automatically for me, but I had a good chuckle about it.

I also finished Scary Stack, but haven't done anything w/ it yet. I want to make it into a flat fold, but don't have everything I need (like cardboard) and I also want to do a tutorial w/ it in case anyone else wants to give it a try. :) Here is the finished project.

Greg finally got his project finished and framed! It looks so kewl!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Vision is the name of the recumbent bicycle that he rides and he just loves it so hence the stitching.

I also got his little sunflower project framed...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Something went a little cattywompus w/ the framing so it's not perfectly centered, but I love the frame and it matches it perfectly!

I also started on Be Thankful by Bent Creek. Yes it's time to do those fast Thanksgiving projects and this one is so adorable! I will probably cube it when finished, not sure yet...but I did see some fantastic turkey print fabric the other day...

I changed the colors of the letters and the leaves and used 2 Needle Necessities colors instead. I love the letters they are better than I had imagined they would be! The only thing I decided, is that I definately need some smaller count fabrics dyed up. I only have a couple of pieces of 16 count that I hand dyed and I need to do some more and some 18 as well, maybe even a couple pieces of evenweave... Sometimes you just need smaller count fabrics...even if I do have trouble seeing them. So that's something I will have to work on soon is buying and dying some smaller counts to have on hand.

Enjoy fall and happy pumpkin hunting!

October!
10.04.05 (11:05 am)   [edit]
:D It's October, my favorite month of the year! Usually it's crisp and the trees are starting to turn and there's a feeling of change in the air. However this October is starting out rather odd, first it's not just warm here it's HOT! 91F to be exact, which is more like August, the warmth has slowed the trees turning so that it appears more like mid September and I am beginning to wonder if the trees will turn color at all or just go brown and have done w/ it. I think I need to get some apple cinnamon smelly stuff and scatter it around just to get in the mood for fall.

I finished my Lost Spirits project and love how it turned out, now I'm not sure whether to make it into a wall hanging or frame it. I'm leaning towards wall hanging as I saw some fantastic Halloween fabric this weekend and I'm dying to buy some of it. Plus it will pack better when Halloween is over.

I also started on Bent Creek's Scary Stack. This is not only fun, but super easy. I just started on Sunday and am nearly finished! Of course sitting watching Lost on DVD for hours on end could have helped that out...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I have to blame AngelSan for getting me hooked on Lost, I avoided watching the show just because I didn't want to get sucked in, but then she began telling me how good it was and POOF! I'm out renting the DVD's and watching hours and hours of the stuff. And (grudgingly) I will admit it's very good, very clever and not at all what I thought it would be.

Greg is still working on his Vision project, here it is all filled in. He's working on lettering for it and should be done soon. I think he's going to make a donation project for the end of the month as well, we will see. :)

I may try to squeez one more Halloween project in before going straight to Thanksgiving. Not sure though as I have a couple of kewl Turkey Day projects that I really want to complete. Let's see how fast I finish the Scary Stack and then see. :)
