That's how Greg's new project is progressing! He must be inspired! (or it's easier than it looks) :) Here is his current progress and as you can see since he started he's cruised through this project! The project is made up of lots of 1/2 stitches, not sure if this why he's making such good progress, but he's doing great!

As you can see Greg is the KING of 1/2 stitches! I can't believe how fast he's completing this project, when his last one seemed to go on forever. Must be the subject matter. :D
I am making good progress on mine as well w/ the remaining bulk of it being the outer edge of the map. I realized today that I don't really have the right color of metallic thread to make this look right so I'm going to have to locate some or substitute. I'm at the point now where I am wondering what I will work on next, I have gotten so used to working on this one I won't know what to do when it's done.

We are in the process of working on moving, who would've thought it would be such a difficult thing to do... But where we live it's not an easy thing when you have a pet to find a place that's pet friendly. Of course we are starting early, which helps, but I don't like leaving these things till the last minute. But these distractions are making it hard to concentrate on stitching... I will be glad when we have made our decision one way or the other and progress to either moving or staying put. In the mean time my stitching is sadly suffering from neglect... LOL

The Big Finale and Continuing Progress

:D Finally one of us completed a project! Greg finished his stain glass window! It looks fantastic! I can't wait to get it framed! :) I think he is going to make a custom frame for it as it's quite long, we will see... :)

Pictures never do justice to these projects, the colors are more vibrant in person, but you can get the idea. He did a fantastic job as always!
I'm still plugging away at Oak Island...although I feel I'm making quite a bit more progress now. I struggled w/ the pattern, but now that I'm most of the way through I think I've got the hang of it. I love the fabric for this one and the colors are so wonderful in person. I find it amazing that after staring at this for so long that even I'm finding more hidden things in the picture. LOL I know this one I will treasure for years to come.

Greg started on a new project last night, called Night Eyes from Dimension:

I'm not big into stitching animals, but this one is quite interesting. He's using black fabric, not always easy to stitch on, but w/ these colors it's going to be very pretty.
I have to give him credit, he never chooses the easy patterns to work on, KUDOS Greg! :D

Stitching with the Seasons
04.14.05 (7:39 am) [edit]
From "Stitched w/ Love and Cat Hair" - Do you “stitch with the seasons?”
Doesn't everyone? :D I find it hard to resist patterns designed for the holidays. I love the holidays and we have a lot of them here in the States. Weird ones, like Ground Hogs day, fun ones like Valentines Day, patriotric ones like Fourth of July and of course the 'ol standards Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. But my all time favorite holiday is Halloween! The colors, the rituals, the funkiness of it all. Halloween has no expectations, except to gorge yourself on candy...and who can resist that?
I find that as each season rolls around I am drawn to the colors we associate with them. So I find that I am impatiently stitching items for the various holidays as fast as I can just before they approach. I find it fun and exhilarating to produce spectacular items as decorations for my favorite holidays. And I know that each year as I take them out to display once again that I will be inspired to stitch something new to add to the collection.

Time Travel!
04.13.05 (12:54 pm) [edit]
I had an interesting weekend and obviously a busy week as I'm just now getting around to posting this.
I went shopping with my mom to this town about 50 miles south of where I live and while there we went into a little sewing shop. They sold a small amount of cross stitching stuff and while looking at what they had we ran onto 2 big boxes of discount patterns! We must've looked through 200 patterns and they were all from the early to mid 90's. This was a weird experience for me as that's around the time I started cross stitching. It was strange to see all of these patterns some of which I remembered, but had never purchased. After looking through *all* of them I picked out several for myself. The best part is that they were all 50% off the *original* prices and (shockingly) the original prices were $2.50 and $3! I got all these patterns for the whopping price of $15 (including tax). How could I pass that up?
So I thought I'd show pics of the "treasures" I purchased. The pics aren't the best but you should be able to get the idea.

Company Picnic is a bit hard to see, but it is an animal stack, cow, pig, sheep, rabbit, chicken and very adorable. There is one from Prairie Schooler w/ the rhyme about Christopher Columbus (Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue...) Most of them are from Leisure Arts, which was the big seller when I was first stitching. The last pattern is the best in my opinion. It's a P. Buckley Moss pattern and I have wanted one for a while, but didn't want to pay the price. This is an older one and it's original price was $5.50 USD and I got it for half that. It's another huge one though, something like 20" x 25" finished.
It must've been bargain day cuz we went to a local discount store and they had all their winter stuff for $1 each item (coats, hats, gloves). I got a couple of coats, a scarf and a hat for Greg. Unfortunately I don't think that Jesse (our cat) is gonna let him have it back. She grabbed it out of my hands and is currently using it for a pillow.

I also got a bit more done on Oak Island. And found another mistake that I had to fix. (grrrrrrr) I think it's starting to fill out nicely now. :)

I have a lot more of the water done now, almost finished w/ it as a matter of fact. So it's starting to go quickly....it does that when you actually work on it.
Greg is making progress as well and he should be done w/ his window soon:

Glowing in the dark...
04.06.05 (12:39 pm) [edit]
I just noted that in my comments Jen asked if I am using Kreinik Glow In The Dark braid for my pirate. The answer is NOPE. I seriously considered it for...well more than a couple of minutes... :D
First off was the cost, it's not cheap. Second, I considered the difficulty in using it. I love the look of the braids, but they can be a pain to work with especially in large amounts. And the suggested Kreinik braid was a bit too white for my tastes, I wanted a more greenish color.
BUT, this is not what finally swayed me from stitching the pirate as a glow in the dark face... (laugh if you will) I had visions of stumbling around my home in the dark (I don't see well in the dark) half asleep and having my senses assaulted by the "Glow In The Dark Pirate Face" and having said "face" give me a momentary mild coronary while my sleep addled brain tried to determine if it's "THE PIRATE" or something scarier...
My sleepy brain is notorious for trying to turn common household objects from the mundane to the hideously scary in the middle of the night. I thought, why add insult to injury?
So, although it initially intrigued me and Greg was notably enthused at the thought...after some contemplation I decided that the "Non-Glow In the Dark" version would save me from potential "monsters under the bed". LOL, LOL

Yo, Ho, Ho... I could use a bottle of rum...
04.06.05 (7:05 am) [edit]
:D Ah, Spring the season of Pleasure and Pain! Mild balmy days filled w/ warm temperatures and buckets of POLLEN. (insert obilgatory sneezing and runny eyes). Yes, I am being tormented by seasonal eye allergies. It sucks, and nothing seems to help. I look like I am tragically mourning some poor lost soul...or the Pope, take your pick.
This is the time of year when I ask myself "Self, why do you bother putting on eye makeup, when it inevitably ends up rubbed off before 9am?" to which I answer, "Because I am the eternal optimist and don't think about the evil pollen spores waiting for me when I step outside the safety of my home."
For those of you who also have seasonal allergies, I sympathize, for those of you who don't ...count yourselves blessed. :)
In other news! I have been working away on my project and have made quite a bit of progress! I am basically done with the greens and onto the blues/browns. Now that I am making more progress it is getting fun to see the hidden picture. The pattern while not especially difficult, can be tricky. All that green can make your eyes cross.
As I found out last night when I realized that I had the bottom of the "P" in the wrong place and had to rip it out along w/ some of my previous work. I am determined that I will not have any significant screw ups in this picture. Mainly becuz it would really mess up the hidden picture. That said I think the only thing I am dreading at this point is the beading. I have never done beading before and while there isn't a lot of it on this project...I have nightmares of trying to pick little red beads out of my carpet before my cat can eat them.
Here is a progress pick from Monday...before I had to reconstruct the bottom two lines of the "P" and some of the green. :)

If you look closely you can see the pirate face hidden in the picture. :) It's very clever the way the artist designed this pattern, I'm excited to see it finished!
Greg is still working on his stained glass, but it's biking season so he's more excited to get his bicycles up and out the door. It may be a while before he finishes his latest project. :)
