Hello Again
03.29.05 (6:43 am) [edit]
:D I can't seem to get motivated lately, not sure if it's the weather or just pure laziness... I have been slowly working on my project...w/ SLOW being the key word.
I am taking a lot of time on this project, mainly cuz I want to get it right. The pattern is quite big and can be a bit tricky to follow and on a project like this it's important to get all the stitches in the correct spots, so I'm not cruising through it like I would other projects. I am carefully checking everything and fixing mistakes, of which I've had a few. This morning I found a potential problem that I am having to frog out, which is annoying after getting those lines done...but it's important...
It seems like this project is taking forever, but I have to keep reminding myself that I haven't really spent a lot of time on it, what with being distracted and all.
So here is an update pic from last night, when I *actually* worked on it.

Greg hasn't been stitching much either. The last time I saw him stitching was last Thursday when I got this update pic. It's too bad cuz this is a beautiful project and I can't wait to see it finished.

Spring is fast upon us and I'm glad for the warm weather! Hope you all are enjoying Spring wherever you are!

Stitching Bloggers Question
03.16.05 (7:57 am) [edit]
On average, how many hours a week (7 days) do you think that you spend cross-stitching?
This is an interesting question and one I have never given much thought to before. I have always just sat, watched tv and stitched and never thought about how much time was involved. I do try to stitch every day and sometimes I stitch for a few minutes in the morning, but mostly it's at night. I usually stitch anywhere from 2.5 to 3 hours a night. If it's Friday or Saturday I might even stitch longer. But I figured if I stitch "on average" 2.5 hours 7 days a week that I stitch 17.5 hous a week. Truthfully I know that a lot of times I stitch a lot more than that and sometimes I stitch a lot less than that. But overall I do stitch a lot, because for me it's relaxing and calms my overactive brain down and marginalizes the hum that's ever present in my thoughts. I'm one of those people that like to think and think A LOT. So stitching gives me a puzzle to focus on and pushes down the sometimes overwhelming desire to analyze, poke, prod and dig into all the many issues I find fascinating, but that can drive me batty. ;D Hmmm...so now I can sit and think about, analyze and figure out (down to the minute) just how much I do stitch... Let me get a piece of paper... LOL, LOL

Quickie Update
03.15.05 (7:08 am) [edit]
Back again! This time I have some update pics to share! I got my witches framed and now I have to find a spot for them in my office, they just seem so right for work.
So here's a pic of them framed out:
If you want to see a larger version of this go here: http://www.angelfire.com/art2...
I got started on Oak Island this weekend and made a bit of progress, although I did have to frog a bit when I found a minor error. :) I LOVE these colors together! I am stitching it on hand dyed fabric, that's a swirly caramel color it's so pretty!

Greg is making progress on his stained glass window, I love the colors on this project!

That's all for now! Hope you are having a great week!

Stitching Blogger's Question
03.14.05 (11:23 am) [edit]
Do you have a favorite designer (or designers)? If so, who is it and why is he or she your favorite?
This is a great question and for once I have time to answer! Thanks Renée!
I have several favorite designers, some for their simplicity, some for their cleverness and some because they just speak to me. :D
Bent Creek - Simple, clever designs in many different themes, easy to stitch and fun to finish!
Birds of a Feather - Clever, Clever designs and have a distinct folk art feel that I find appealing.
Heart in Hand - Simple and fast to finish w/ a wide variety of holiday themes.
Mosey 'n Me - Frank Bielec and his wife do a fantastic job of designing clever and colorful folk art inspired pieces. I love Frank on Trading Spaces and his fun personality carries over into these projects. Not as easy as you might think at first glance, but worth the work.
Hinzeit - Clever designs that are easy to stitch and great for holiday decorating. Hard to find patterns though, not stocked everywhere.
Holiday Sparrow/Twisted Threads/Trilogy - All fun and creative and interesting to stitch! Holiday Sparrow is a bit more challenging, adding a lot of specialty stitches to deceptively simple projects. I have stitched a lot of Trilogy projects and these designers do a great job!
Raise the Roof Designs - I have stitched 2 of her designs and I LOVE them! They are funny, easy to stitch and the colors are fabulous! If you haven't checked out this designer, you should! I am a BIG fan of hers! Go here to see her designs: http://www.shakespearespeddle...
Lynne Nicoletti - I am in the process of stitching a Lynne Nicoletti design, although I have 2 more waiting to be worked on. This designer is one that just speaks to me! As a child I loved fairy tales and fantasy and Lynne's designs feed that for me! Her Alice and Alladdin patterns practically jump off the page at you and I can't wait till I can stitch them. Right now I am stitching her Oak Island Mystery pattern. It's what she calls a "hidden image" pattern. These have to be the cleverest patterns I have seen! Each one has an overall theme and within each one are representative elements "hidden" in the design. The first time I saw her designs I knew I HAD to stitch them and I have to say that I am not disappointed with Oak Island. It's challenging, but not so hard that it's overwhelming and the way she's designed the interior elements is just astounding to me. I believe it's a challenging enough project for advanced stitchers and beginners alike. She incorporates beads and Kreinik blending threads into the design in a simple and elegant way. I can't wait to finish this one and get it framed, because it's going to be an heirloom, of that I have no doubt. Go here to see her designs: http://www.lynnenicoletti.com/usretailers.html" title="http://www.lynnenicoletti.com/usretailers.html" target="_blank"http://www.lynnenicoletti.com... While there look at the hidden image designs they are absolutely fantastic in my opinion. I hope that Lynne continues to be more and more recognized for her clever and distinctive designs!

Time Flies...
03.11.05 (10:57 am) [edit]
Whether you are having fun or not... :D My job has been keeping me exceptionally busy for the last little while and I have fallen behind in updates...also I haven't had much to update. The project I have been working on didn't have a lot of memorable and/or updateable moments, so I just kept chugging along on it. BUT now I have finally finished it and am ready to show it off...unfortunately one of the pics I took of it turned out quite blurry... :( Oh well, I'm sure you will get the general idea.

I love how it turned out! It looks much better when you see it in person! I have a great frame for it and I hope to get it in the frame this weekend!! This pic took a LONG time to stitch, not from complexity, but from sheer size! It's big! But fun to stitch!
A while back Greg finished his mini stain glass project and I never got a pic of it in the frame, so here it is!

I think this frame is so perfect for this project, although these glass frames don't have traditional openings in the back so it's a bit harder to get the project to fit. But it really complements the colors.
And lastly here is Greg's latest on his LARGE stain glass project! It's so pretty!

I decided to go ahead and start on the Oak Island Mystery project, I have been wanting to work on it for a long time and since Easter is so early I wouldn't have had enough time to do Peter's Cotton Knits. So I'm saving it for next Easter, it's a great pattern though and I know it'll be so fantastic when it's done!
Also, since San has been working on crochet I thought I would post this picture of an afghan that my dad made me many, many years ago. He used to love to crochet and made quite a few afghans and this is just one of the ones he gave me. This one is about 7 feet long and has a nice gold fringe around the edges, which I feel must've taken a bit of time. The stars are crocheted and sew on separately. It's a real treasure to me as I've never been able to get into crocheting. I know a lot of people love it and I do love the results!

Have a great weekend!
