It's Friday!
01.28.05 (11:34 am) [edit]
:) So glad it's Friday! Just wanted to do an update before the weekend. I finished the second Cardiology pattern and am now working on Springology patterns. I hope to make some mini pillows for the Cardiology finishes this weekend, if I can find the right trim. :) Here is the latest Cardiology finish:

I was going to backstitch this, but it just looked weird w/ the backstitching so I left it off. I love the fabric on this piece and can't wait to show the fabric for the back of the pillow. :)
Here is the start of one of the Springology's:
Springology:

And lastly here's Greg's update on his LOVE stamp:

This time of year makes it easy to get stitching done as it's just too icky to be outside. And yet I can't believe that January is over...how time flies!!

Mid Week Updates!
01.26.05 (7:11 am) [edit]
So here it is Wednesday already! I wanted to get these posted earlier, but time flies!
I am currently trying to finish some mini projects, 2 from Trilogy's Cardiology and 2 from Springology. Here's a pic of the cover of Cardiology:

I'm finished w/ Love Conquers All and am working on the Claddagh.

Greg is working on the stamp project:

It's looking very nice and bright! :) You'd think large blocks of color would go fast but sometimes it's actually slower.
Here's a pic of my bunnies in their frame, it's not properly framed, this is a "dry fit":

I love this frame, it worked great for the bunnies! Can't wait to get it all finished!

Shari: Sorry I got your name wrong!! And glad I could help!
Shari: Read your response, thanks! Last fall I did respond to questions about making cubes and gave a mini demo here:
http://www.angelfire.com/art2/institches/mysti tching/spooky.html" title="http://www.angelfire.com/art2/institches/mysti tching/spooky.html" target="_blank"http://www.angelfire.com/art2...
I have seen a book about making cubes but it's not cheap. Making the cubes is fairly straightforward once you get the right dimensions for your project. It's just a matter of having lots of straight pins and white glue. Make sure it's white glue and not fabric glue, fabric glue leaves weird discolorations on the fabric. If you have more questions let me know.

The Big Reveal!
01.24.05 (8:11 am) [edit]
:D Back before Xmas San sent me the cutest little gift a sunflower mini pillow. I decided that I wanted to reciprocate and stitched her a little gift and also included a half yard of fabric that I had hand dyed.
I wanted to keep it a secret so obviously I couldn't post a pic of the project UNTIL NOW! San received the package on Friday and now I can show everyone (who hasn't already seen it on her site) the stitched gift I sent.
I found a pattern book w/ letters that had little angels w/ them and I thought "perfect" for San as her nickname is "AngelSan". The frame I found totally by accident and couldn't resist, it's just perfect for this project. I finished it very quickly and got it framed and then had to wait...San went on Xmas holidays and I didn't want to send it to her while she was away. :) So it was sent after she returned and I am pleased to say she loves the project and the fabric. I am so relieved that she loved it all! So here is a pic of the project I sent:

The fabric I sent has the same colors as the piece I stitched the pattern on. I have to say it was one of the prettier pieces I have dyed. So! Now I've finally gotten to share my "secret" w/ everyone! Whew! What a relief...
In other news, I did complete another mini project this weekend and have some update pics, but I will post those tomorrow.

More Finishes!
01.19.05 (12:40 pm) [edit]
:D Well I was hoping to get this update in yesterday, but real life intruded! So here are some updates of projects that were framed this weekend. I love them all, but especially love the way that the horoscopes turned out!
Greg did a great job with them and I had this lavendar paper that I was able to print out the descriptions on so it all came together fantastic!

This is Greg's sun framed up and I have to say that the frame really helps the bright colors from being too overwhelming. I like this project much better now that it's framed. ;p

Here are my Valentino's! They are so cute! It's hard to believe looking at it now how much work is involved in these patterns. I love the finished result, but it certainly doesn't look that hard until you try to stitch it. ;p I have these perched on the entertainment center to celebrate Valentine's day. :) And I used Greg's idea of putting the date in Roman Numerals instead of numbers. I love the look of it!

Here is Greg's next project.

I have to chuckle about this one becuz poor Greg slaved away on this heart all weekend, while I did the project below. He seemed a bit miffed at how much progress I made as opposed to his own. I think that sometimes these big blocks of color take longer you would think. :)

I am nearly finished with this project as of last night I am just working ont he backstitching. I am amazed at how quick it went. I started it on Saturday. I think that's why Greg was looking at his thinking "how come this taking so long"
It's not supposed to have backstitching but it's a bit light so I decided it had to have it. It's looking good so far.

I am going to finish a few more Springy projects and maybe a couple of small things from this new pattern I just got, The Trilogy's Cardiology before I go onto some bigger projects. I have to say though I like doing these speedy projects a lot.

Valentino's Charm
01.11.05 (7:37 am) [edit]
:D So here I am waiting for another storm to blow through! Fortunately it's a small one and we should only (crosses fingers) get a small amount of snow and freezing rain. Personally I'd rather have the snow, but it's winter so we must perservere.
I have to say that Mondays are never my favorite days and winter Mondays are way at the bottom. :) Add to that the fact that some bozo stole my car atenna (the aerial part) and it wasn't the best day yesterday. I have never understood why anyone would want to steal (or break off) someone's antenna. (big sigh) Fortunately I have an old car and it's not a devastating loss, just an anoying one (ask Greg, he'll confirm how annoyed I was)
So here we are on Tuesday and waiting for it to snow/sleet/drizzle and generally make our lives a freezing nightmare....how fun! One bright spot at least is that everywhere you go in the stores now you see Easter and Valentine's stuff. Weird as it is it's sort of cheering to see spring like items when it's so cold outside. It makes me realize that it really is just a few weeks till things get better. :D
Greg has been working away on this sun picture and I have to say it's burn your retina's out bright. He loves it and that's all that matters.
It's a freebie from Witches Stitches:

He is close to being done and wondering what to do next, although I think he is going to do this stained glass window pattern he has, which will be very springesque. :D
My Valentino's are done except for massive backstitching. They are very adorable and the backstitching brings out their cute personalities. Not sure how long it will take but as much as I like them I'm ready to move onto other things. :)

I think I will do some Easter things next just to remind me that the sun will return at some point. :) Stay warm!

Snow Daze...
01.07.05 (7:01 am) [edit]
I suppose it's appropriate that for the first of the year we get a fresh blanket of snow to wipe away the old year and start off fresh ... and did we ever get to wipe away the old year!
I was off work on Wednesday as everything was closed down for snow and more snow...we ended up with 10 inches and someplaces close by ended up with nearly 16 inches. Yikes!! It's hard to comprehend how much snow that is!
I was inspired by San's picture taking, so I took a couple out my window here at work, however only one made it here with me today. I have a nice screen over the outside of my window which gives this pic a unique quality. I feel fortunate that the area I work in resembles a park and has pretty trees and grass instead of a distinctly urban feel. So the view from my window is mainly trees and lawn. Here is one corner of the view with lots of snow:

Now that they have pushed and scooped the snow around it's basically at just above my knees when I walk by it on the way to the gym. But I feel grateful that at least it's all shovelled out of the way! :)
I promised to show my birthday gifts off so here they are! The first pic is the gift I gave myself. I had wanted this set of boxes for a long time and finally gave in and got them, not sure what will go in them, but they will be good for getting things out of sight.

Below is the gift that Greg gave me and I just love it! As I have said before I LOVE Halloween and anything related to it! I also love folkart stuff and this is just wonderful! It's created by Dan di Paulo, he makes the most fantastic folkartsy figurines I have ever seen. I just love their whimsy and daintiness. This guy is quite tall and I love the light feeling of it.

I borrowed this pic, as my own didn't do it any justice at all. For some reason he reminds me of something from "A Nightmare Before Xmas".
Now for some stitching updates! First here's my Valentino's , I am making slow progress on the last one and hope to finish him so I can get to the massive backstitching. This has been a more challenging project than it initially looked, but it's cute and will be fun to set out for Valentine's Day. The mustaches and eyebrows are all supposed to be done in french knots, but I didn't think I'd have the patience for that so I just stitched them with 6 strands of thread and I like the heaviness that it gives without as much work.

Greg finished his Margaret Sherry cat horoscopes and I think they are so adorable! I can't wait till we get them framed!! As always he did a fantastic job! I love the ginger kitties and their expressions!

Well it's the weekend again (how'd that happen?), hope everyone has fun and great weather!

What day is it?
01.04.05 (6:43 am) [edit]
So here I am back at work and I realize that I haven't been blogging for a while. I just got caught up in pre-holiday work frenzies and then holiday no-work doldrums. The holidays were pretty good, but I definately missed my normal routine. I don't like taking vacation in winter it's depressing. Not to mention that every time I turned around someone was shoving food at me and no way to excercise and you get one grumpy me. Ah well, now I'm back at it and I have to say going to the gym was such a relief, I finally felt normal again.
As for stitching we had a productive holiday and I was so glad to put away the Xmas ornaments. I am working on one last Valentine project, then a couple of Easter things and that's it till late summer for holiday stuff.
So here are pics of what we finished/worked on over the holidays. Sorry I didn't get any pics of me, too much eating makes me camera shy.

This is the Valentine bird all framed up! I like this frame it's got great texture and the bird turned out wonderfully, although I'm stlll amazed at how big it is.

This is the ground hog framed. I didn't really even get any "in progress" pics because I finished it so fast. I like this fabric, it reminds me of a cold winter morning and the frame symbolizes him popping out of his little hole. :)

Here is my progress on the Valentino guys. I need to take a new pic, as I have all the second guy done and half the 3rd one. It's going fairly fast, although it's a lot harder pattern than it would appear at first glance. It has several speciality stitches that add to the uniqueness but make it harder to stitch. The basket on the first Valentino is supposed to be alternating Satin stitch, but I didn't like the look and left it out. There are also a lot of fractional stitches so if you don't like them stay away from this pattern. I did figure out how to do a Smyrna Cross and Rice Stitch on 14 count aida and though you can't really see it in the picture it does add an interesting dimension to the stitching.

This is the project that Greg worked on during the holiday. He put both the cat horoscopes on one piece of fabric, we have an interesting idea for framing them that should be fun. Getting them lined up on the fabric was a challenge and they ended up a bit off center, but still should work. This is one of those instances where you learn how differently each person approaches a project. We definately didn't agree on how it should get done, but we did agree that we were glad it was being done as it's a cute pattern. The top cat is Greg's star sign and the bottom is mine (Taurus and Capricorn) sometimes I wonder that we ever agree as we are both stubborn in our own ways.
Here is the last update pic I took. Greg is nearly done with the backstitching at this point, so you can see how behind I am on getting pictures. :)

I definately enjoyed the new year and will post pics of my birthday present tomorrow or the next day, depending on how much it snows here. They are calling for nearly 12 inches, I'm hoping for none.... Hope your new year is starting out great!
