The Stitching Fairy

Monday, Lovely Monday
06.28.04 (7:32 am)   [edit]
Okay, let's be honest...I hate Mondays. I always want just ONE more day to sleep in (yeah right) and just kick around doing nothing (never happens)...but here is it is again Monday. And I never seem to get it together until around Wednesday. :) Just in time for the next weekend.

Okay, here is a big ol' update!! I got a bit more done on the moon man, although I am desperately upset at myself for once again screwing up somewhere and getting him totally off center. He's so off center that it's gonna be a weird and wonderful experience trying to mat him out. Let's say HURRAH! for sweet, kind husbands that are ever optimistic and patient!! Hurrah! Hurrah! Cuz w/out mine this project would be sitting in the back of a closet somewhere as a cat doily.

I will be ever so glad to be done w/ it and move onto something simple (yes I'm delusional)

On a much more positive note! :D

Greg finished Newton!! (applause all around)

It looks wonderful! It got a good wash and framing up and here it is in all it's glory!

Greg also started on another project yesterday. This weekend we went and checked out local stitching shops and at one there was a grab of fabric scraps that looked interesting, so he got it. Inside were some unusual scraps some of which look to be 6 or 7 count fabric. He picked one that was dark grey w/ gold strands shot through it and decided to put a halloween witch on it. After meticulously scouring all our thread piles for similar colors to the ones suggested he found enough to work on it. The interesting part is that he's using an entire strand of 6 strand DMC to stitch on the fabric. Fortunately he has a technique that works well w/ this type of fabric and it is looking great! Here is a pic of the project and current progress:

So that's where we are right now! I hope to be finished w/ the moon by end of the week and then leave it to Greg to work on the matting...Good luck... I spose I could always make it into a pillow??

Wow, twice in a week!
06.25.04 (1:09 pm)   [edit]
Can't believe I'm updating again, but I just had to share another pic of the moon man. It's coming along great! I'm nearly done w/ the "L" and I don't anticipate a lot of trouble w/ the "B" It will be great to finally finish this one, even though I've only worked on it for a month it seems like forever. :)

M- O - O - N - spells UPDATE!
06.23.04 (8:05 am)   [edit]
Here I am again to add another pic to the pile! Okay maybe 2, but whose counting?

I got the "N" done on the moon and it was a close call, I barely have enough fabric to do a decent framing, lesson learned on this one. I also finished the "E", yes I know I'm not speedy, but I also don't spend every evening plugging away at it either. 8)

I was pleased that I did finish the "E" in one sitting (about 2.5 hours) in my defense the pattern is rather tricky.

I did buy a frame for the moon project earlier this week, it's a whopping 16x20 and I convinced Greg to help w/ the matting. It will be a very thin mat, just enough to help the project fit the frame. I think it will turn out great and can't wait to finish and see it all come together! The project is supposed to have a border on the top and bottom, but I will have to wait to see if I'll have enough room at the bottom as the letters are HUGE for the "COFFEE" part of the pic.

I am also including a pic of my framed "Coffee Sampler". It turned out great after I re-framed it. I just didn't think the first frame did it justice. I was able to do a bit of embellishment on this one and luckily found some coffee stickers that really make it fun!

Running Out of Room...
06.18.04 (6:43 am)   [edit]
on my moon man fabric!! I knew from the start that I was cutting it close (pardon the pun) on the amount of fabric I had from my moon project, but I didn't realize JUST how close. I will have just barely enough to do a framing that will leave little open space around the pic. :( Oh well! At least I didn't run out!! :D

I am making good progress on the letters and am nearly done w/ the second "O" the "N" shouldn't take that long. Here are a couple of pics from Wednesday and Thursday...

Greg took the first pic and I took the second one, I should've put it on the floor (or something) but the cat was giving me grief and I didn't want her putting kitty tracks on my project, so it's a bit "kitty" wompus. Overall I think this one is turning out great!!

Greg's project is coming along fantastically!! He's nearly done!! Just the backstitching left. This pic doesn't do the project nearly enough justice! The blue is a bit light for my tastes and I'm still not happy about the floss conversion, but he's done a wonderful job stitching this project!! It looks great!! He substituted sparkly thread for the red and it's so pretty in the right light. I can't wait to see the finished product! GO GREG!! 8)

Thanks to my friend San for helping me get all "sorted" out. LOL, LOL

I think I would like being a Gryffindor, they all seem pretty chummy. So if you love HP and want to get sorted...go check it out. :D

Mega Update!
06.08.04 (11:09 am)   [edit]
I'm back after a couple of stressful and productive weeks! Had a bout of illness, but still going strong.

First here are my current in progress pics! I have to say that this time out the moon man is going well (knock on wood)! I'm onto the bright blue part of his face and only had one mistake that caused a few problems. This time I was able to work around it! I started him again around May 25 and this first pic is from May 28 (or thereabouts) and the second one is from June 6...notice this is an actual shot of me working on him...my hubby took it. Don't I have lovely hands?

I have enjoyed working on this project much more this time out, the few other projects I worked on before re-starting this definately helped me to re-sharpen my skills. :D

Here's my hubby's update: He finished quite a bit and you can see more pics of his work in my gallery.

The first pic is his finished t-shirt project! It turned out great!! He worked amazingly hard on it and I am proud of how well he has learned stitching!

This second pic is a mini project that he did before starting on his next "big" project. It turned out so cute that I turned it into a fridge magnet. :)

And here is his current project, a freebie pattern from Coats and Clarke. It's a Newton's Law pattern and it's so adorable!! My hubby (Greg) is making this for his mom's birthday (isn't that just so sweet?). We have had some mega debates over the colors as I had to convert them from Anchor to DMC and I'm afraid that they aren't quite what was intended for the project (for example the red Anchor color is actually orange in DMC). You can see from the pic that the colors are not quite as brown as they would be in the Anchor colors. I think that doing a self conversion from Anchor to DMC is a tricky thing and would recommend checking colors against a finished pic before purchasing them. If I had done a color check I wouldn't have got a red-orange for the heart and might've even went a bit darker w/ the golden browns. It's a minor thing and doesn't detract from the overall look. And Greg decided that instead of the red floss he's gonna use a red metallic thread for the heart and spool in the pic. He is definately is enjoying working on this project and has commented that he is beginning to understand some of the complexities in working cross stitch that he never fully appreciated before.

As fast as he is getting I'm sure he'll have it done in no time! I'm amazed at how well he's taken to stitching! It's a lot of fun to have someone around that is not only interested in what you are doing but actually can understand the whole process! So LUCKY ME! :D
