The Stitching Fairy

The Gift
04.29.04 (12:45 pm)   [edit]
This is a project that I started on 4/23 and finished in a day! Yepper! I had it stitched and framed by 4/24/2004! Of course it's not a complicated piece (no backstitching), but still I was impressed. I think it looks great! This is a gift for my husband's friend who is getting married in a couple of days. I hope he and his wife like it! I added the 2 gold rings at the suggestion of my husband, they really add a lot to the piece. You can click the pic below to see more pics of this project.

The Finish Line!
04.27.04 (2:59 pm)   [edit]
:D Well I did it! I finished Give and Take! It looks very good and as far as I know there are NO mistakes! I did change the charm for the cat's collar and the beads on the dog collar and I also left off some stitching on the sides of the block at the bottom, which I liked better w/ out all the extra color. You can see the full progress and a larger version of the completed project by clicking the picture below.

This was a fun project and I believe that I will buy some more projects from Mosey n' Me in the future!! Now onto other things!! I'm going to be working on coffee related stitching for the next little while and rotating between projects. :)

An Update
04.20.04 (8:51 am)   [edit]
Here is the latest on "Give and Take" Not long till I finish it! It looks good and I am definately getting better at catching mistakes. I am pleased with the colors, since I did some substitutions. I changed the food dish a bit, I thought it looked kind of fun like this. Can't wait to add all the little finishing touches! You can see a larger version by clicking the "What I'm Stitching" pic on the right.

Framed!
04.19.04 (1:53 pm)   [edit]
I got my wedding project framed yesterday! I put pics in from my wedding last year and our cake. The cake was so pretty!

The only problem I had was when I was picking out the frame. The frame has some type of graphite antiquing material on it, which I didn't realize. Some this got onto my fabric as I was checking to see if the project would fit the frame. Oh the horror! I was lucky though that it came out, but will be careful in the future to make sure that doesn't happen...wouldn't want to ruin a great project w/ some unremovable dirt!!! The funny part was when my DH and I got home he decided he was going to "clean" the "dirt" off the frame. I had to stop him before he washed all the antiquing medium off of it. He kept saying "But it's got dirt on it" and I'm trying to explain that it's not "dirt" (big sigh) :D Needless to say the "dirt" didn't get washed off and I was much more careful handling the frame.

You can see more of this project in my gallery.

04.19.04 (1:05 pm)   [edit]
1. Do you like to use specialty stitches when you stitch?

I don't know many specialty stitches, but would like to learn.

2. Can you do a perfect french knot?

Define "Perfect"

3. What is your favourite stitch?

Cross

4. Are you currently working on any projects with specialty stitches and if so which ones?

Nope

5. Name a specialty stitch you would most love to learn how to do.

Rice Stitch

Stitchers Five - April 12
04.14.04 (2:06 pm)   [edit]
1. What is your favourite theme to stitch (i.e. primitive, fantasy, samplers, etc)

I'd say I lean towards fantasy, but I also love the primitive/country stuff.

2. Has this always been your favourite theme (i.e as your tastes change)?

I'd say that since I stopped stitching about 10 years ago that my tastes have changed a lot. But I don't remember there being this many interesting and fun things to stitch back then either.

3. How many WIPs/UFOS do you have currently in this theme?

A lot more than I care to think about.

4. And how many finished?

None

5. Name three favourite designs in your overall favourite theme.

Blue Moon, Nordic Rune (Witches Stitches) and the Charmed Sorcerer (Dimensions) - Of course none of these are complete and I'm only working one one of them right now. But I'm looking forward to getting to stitch them all.

Cruising Along w/ my Weather Pixie
04.14.04 (1:50 pm)   [edit]
:D I'm happy to report that I am making quick progress (knocks on wood) w/ this newest project. I have also gotten good at catching myself when I make silly mistakes! (yea me!) This is an interesting project to work on because: 1. It's easy :) and 2. It's EASY! Actually it's just fun! It does have a lot of quarter stitches, but those go fast. I like the overall theme of this one and the colors are nice. I wasn't able to find the recommended colors for the cat, bowl and pink in the border cuz they are some specialty thread that I've never heard of before. So I subbed some DMC variegated floss that seems to be working like a charm. On the cat I am using the variegated (2 strands) and 1 strand of a solid tangerine color. This seems to be giving me a similar outcome to the original picture. These specialty threads sound nice, but for plain jane stitchers like me they are hard to come by cuz I don't want to spend a fortune buying them just for one project. This project also has some beading on the dog collar that you can't see until you get the pattern in hand and look close at the pic that comes w/ it. I found some beads, but then found something I liked better so I will be substituting. I never did find the silver heart, but my hubby found something cuter (in our opinion). Can't wait to finish it...I'm anxious to get back to my moon man. :) Hopefully I'll make good progress tomorrow, I have half a day off...getting a new sofa. So we will see...

On another topic...You might notice that I now have a weather pixie on my blog. I saw this at someone else's blog and checked it out. It's so fun! I put it up last Friday and as I was getting ready to leave the picture suddenly turned from a girl in a jacket under clouds to a girl under an umbrella w/ raindrops falling on her. I looked out the window but didn't notice rain...until I walked outside and sure enough it was raining, lightly but it was raining. I just had to laugh cuz she was right. Isn't modern technology just amazing?? :D

The Finish Line
04.12.04 (7:27 am)   [edit]
:D It's finished!! I finished my Wedding Kit yesterday! (see below) It took forever to do the backstitching and then I ran out of thread to do the cording (which was a pain to do anyhow), but it's done! I left off the border to make it easier to frame. I want to put this in a dual opening frame w/ a picture from my wedding and it would've been too big w/ the border. This is the finished pic, although I did make a minor modification this morning cuz I didn't like the way the lazy daisy stitches between the names turned out, so I added another french knot and another LD stitch...it's so minor that I don't think I'll do another pic. ;p You can click on the pic to see the gallery w/ the original project pic and one work in progress pic.

This is my first completed project since re-starting stitching in February! Yeah me! :D

Stitchers Five - Last Week
04.08.04 (8:11 am)   [edit]
I decided to do the Stitcher's Five, haven't done them before, so thought it'd be fun!

1. When did you first start stitching?
In 1987

2. How long have you been stitching?
I stitched for about 5 years then stopped and just started
again this February.

3. Did someone teach you or did you teach yourself?
I basically taught myself, w/ some help from stitching friends.

4. Describe your first project (if you can remember!).
Funny, I don't remember, but that was a while ago.

5. When did you first realise that stitching was for you?
I liked it back then, but there just didn't seem to be as many interesting things to stitch. When my friend San started going on and on about how much she was enjoying stitching I decided to give it a try again. I had wanted a hobby that was compact and not particularly messy (like my old painting habit was) and stitching fit the bill. So far I am loving it, a great stress release and so many fun things to create!

Wacky Weekend
04.05.04 (3:08 pm)   [edit]
So here in the U.S.A. it's Spring time changing season, that time of year when we set our clocks forward (well at least the bulk of the US does) and it's terribly disconcerting to one day wake up at 7 am and the next it's 8 am... Imagine trying to get up for work... Needless to say I'm totally confused, it' says 5 pm on the clock, but I feel like it's midnight. ;D

This weekend I spent w/ my family. My brother was visiting, which is always nice, but hectic. His two girls are LOUD, but then they are 3 and 2 add a puppy and it's chaos.

In between all that I did manage to get stitching done on this little project I got in the mail last week. It's very pretty and so far it's been basically easy. And I'm doing better at counting, which is a plus for me.

I decided to work on this and give my brain a break from the moon man for a bit. He will be back though and I already have his new nose well in progress.

As for the following, flash bulbs and cream colored fabric do not make for nice pics. I had a difficult time even getting a decent pic (which I won't go into details on) but this one gives an idea where I'm at. It's going to be very pretty. :D

New Header!
04.02.04 (7:54 am)   [edit]
:) Look! A new header! I really like it! t-blog has this deal where you earn "t-bucks" for blogging, etc. and when you get "enough" bucks you can buy cute little extras (like weird cursor trails, etc.) One of the things that they "let" me buy was a header, which is nice since this is a freebie site and I just took what they had and called it good. Now I get to have this more fun (in my opinion) header! It kinda looks like needlepoint to me, but I mainly just love the colors. Oh the little things in life...

The Death and Life of the Man in the Moon
04.01.04 (7:29 am)   [edit]
 You know how some things are just a lost cause from the start? And even though you know it's a lost cause you keep struggling along cuz you figure "it can be saved"...well some things aren't worth saving.

Despite all the hard work I have done w/ the man in the moon, he is now *toast*. The mistakes were too many and too grevious to be withstood by a capricorn. BUT in true capricornian fashion I refuse to give up on this project and have decided that "3rd time's a charm". Now you may ask, "why try again"...well that's a good question, but for whatever mysterious reason I just can't give up on this project, despite the trials it has put me through. I really love it, it's unusual and frankly the face kind of reminds me of my sweet hubby. (No his face isn't quite that round, but it's the eyes and smile). I just want to finish it, just that simple and I want to finish it w/ the quality that it deserves and that I require from myself.

So I am calling this past month a sort of boot camp for cross stitch and moving on from here. I remember in the past (many years ago) I had a similar experience w/ another project I tried and I basically ditched it from frustration, obviously I didn't love it anywhere as much as this project. I also credit my husband w/ giving me the support and cuddles that have given my ego the boost it needs not to be defeated by all this...he is just wonderful. Not too many guys would understand the frustration and would wonder what all the fuss is about. He not only understood, but convinced me to keep at it, even when the project went flying across the room past his head.

So, here is the original pic again, as a fresh start for this project. I will not give up until I can present a completed version for all to see. :D
