So last time I was telling you all about how I finished Mr. Moon's eyes, etc. Well I tried to finish his roundness and it was a disaster. I have no idea where I went wrong, but wrong is where I most definately went. I won't go into the ugly details, but the poor man needs some major cosmetic surgery. I am going to attempt to do the reconstruction tonite, we will see how it goes.
On a brighter note :D I got two new projects that I am going to work on. They are small and even though the first one got off to a rocky start (white on ivory; let's not go there) it's now moving along fairly smoothly.

I got this one cuz I just got married last year and wanted to have a keepsake and this was small and sweet. I am nearly finished w/ the bottom heart and that's just in a few hours of stitching. :D
The second pattern I ordered is also related to being married and the necessities of "give and take"...yes it can be challenging being married. I believe it has to do w/ people having such *different* personalities and possibly that "man/woman" thing...you know "Mars vs Venus" and we all know who wins there.
So I got this little project to do to stick on the fridge to remind me (and my spouse) that sometimes it's necessary to give a little to...well...uh...get a little --- I think you *know* what I mean. :)

Here he is again, but at least now he can see you clearly...I finished filling in his eyes.
He's looking quite good, one eyebrow left and onto the lettering. Next section of the chart will be rounding him out. The only nit picky thing I have w/ him this go around is his filled in eyebrow...it just doesn't look quite right to me. I think it looks fatter than the other one. I will have to work on this. Being a female and always concerned w/ eyebrows (yes, I know this is vain) I want his to have that perfect symmetry that all us vain women long for in our eyebrows. If I can't have movie star eyebrows, he sure as hell can!!!
Which leads me to ask...why do guys always have perfect eyebrows (albeit ungroomed)?? Women suffer and slave for them and guys are just born w/ naturally thick and well shaped eyebrows (even if some are a bit bushy).
This project is going well and faster than I had anticipated, at this point I have 3 weeks into the restart.
I still think I will start the in between project though just so I don't continually obsess about the poor moon man's eyebrows.

New Gallery and Teddies from Hell
03.24.04 (9:49 am) [edit]
Another posting in one day - wow... Well I just wanted to say that I made a gallery that shows all the projects that I have that I would like to work on...well almost all of them. There are still a few that I would like to add, but it will have to wait. :)
Below is a pic of a Sunset kit that Ijust got from my mom. She started it and couldn't figure out the colors (for some reason it didn't come with a color sorting guide) so I took it over thinking I could go out and just buy the colors - WRONG. Sunset doesn't use DMC colors, so I had to figure out what colors went with what, as the threads my mom had were totally unusable. Well I managed to get colors that match, but then I find that she's stitched part of the project, not much, but enough that I had to rip it out so I could start over. LOL Oh well, it was a chore, but I think it will be worth it as this is a cute chart and fairly easy....even though it looks hard. I am using this as my "in between" project. Something to do when I can't stand whatever current project I'm working on. We will see how that goes. I'm haven't tried working on multiple projects yet. My mom loves too, but I don't know how she keeps it all straight she seems to have such a mess going. Guess I'm too much of an organizational freak. ;p ;p Not really, just w/ stitching.

I don't have a picture to add, but thought I'd just do a verbal update. I have moved from the section of the chart that had his face to the next section up that has the top of his head and starting the letters. I completed around his eyes and the steam across his face. It looks great! I had to do so much creative stitching to make him look good. The chart was homemade and I should've worked it over cuz I have had to make a lot of color choices and creative stitches to get it to look like the original. In the end it is worth it as he looks so great! It will be kewl to see how it all turns out and then to have it hanging on the wall as a reminder of all my hard work. The project has actually gone quite fast once I started over. It's definately gotten me excited about stitching again!

Man in the Moon
03.18.04 (6:27 am) [edit]
Here I am back again!! This time I bring pictures! Hooray for me! I *re-started* this project on March 6 and you can see I've made a bit of progress, not as much as I would like, but it's coming along! Refer to the original pic to get an idea of where this project is going and you will see that this is supposed to be the moon in the poster. The way the my stitch chart is broken up I only have the middle of his face, next up finishing his "roundness" and starting on letters. I am hoping that the letters go smoother than the moon face. For some reason I got off by a few stitches again, even though I counted and counted...I'm wondering if the pattern is off... Oh well, I have made the best of it and am sort of making it up as I go and I think it's working! I hope to have the rest of his face filled in by the weekend and then onto the next section! Wish me luck! :)

Starting over
03.11.04 (1:41 pm) [edit]
Sometimes a project becomes so frustrating that all you can do is pitch it and start over. So I did it. I got fed up w/ all the mistakes, etc. and ditched my project in favor of a do-over. I will add pics when I can (maybe tomorrow). :) I went out and found BLUE fabric as was recommended to me and began again and I have to say it's going much faster and it's looking great...except for some confusion on my part about what color was what... Anyway- I've got a lot done and it shouldn't take nearly as long as it was going too. I also invested in a good light source so I don't go blind this time around, I think that's why I gave up stitching the first time out, bad lighting and sore eyes.
I also went shopping this weekend and found a place that was a mecca for cross stitchers! I found cheap fabrics and even the blue that I had needed for my project... I really stocked up, as when I'm ready for the next project I just want to jump into it. All I need do now is stock up on some floss and I'm good to go!

US Cross Stitching Mags
03.03.04 (9:19 am) [edit]
Following is a cross stitch mag I found when out shopping last nite. If you click the pic you will go their website, which is quite interesting. I like this particular mag because it focuses on "countryesque" stitching projects. Maybe it has a bit of a religious theme going on, but you can leave that stuff off the projects if you choose. They just have a warm welcoming feel to them compared to the other mag I saw, which was too frilly and pastel.

Progress update!
03.03.04 (9:05 am) [edit]
I've been slaving away (you believe me right :) ) and here are the results! I actually feel like I'm making some progress and I got the errors straightened out (for now). I like these colors, although they don't look the same online as in person. They are more muted in person. I have to say though, IF I ever do a project like this again I will definately take the advice I've been given to just use BLUE fabric and stitch the rest onto it. ;p Live and learn, that's my motto...good thing too, cuz I've got a lot to learn. :)

It's Quiz Time!!
03.02.04 (1:47 pm) [edit]
Okay now I am being sucked in!! But who can resist Care Bears? I always loved those little guys and for those of you who care, YES there is a Grumpy Bear.
I also had to try this "What Royalty Are You?" And what a surprise this was...(see below)
Do you think that it's possible to be a "Revolutionary Friend Woman Bear"???? I'm so confused.....
| Friend Bear You are everyone's ideal friend because you are sincere and genuinely kind. Sometimes you worry about your friends' problems so much, you forget about your own responsibilities, which can get you into trouble. For you, it's the little things that really count. You also happen to be the main driver of the Cloud Car. No speeding! | |
=http://img28.photobucket.com/... You are a Revolutionary Woman! You could care less about the monarchy! You live for yourself!
You're beautiful and kick-ass! And like a female-warrior. You're resourceful, smart, tough, street-smart. You live life for yourself and not as others dictate and refuse to be branded into a category. You live apart from world and society.

No Man Is An Island...
03.01.04 (12:42 pm) [edit]
Okay, I admit it, I'm a sucker for these silly quizzes "What book are you? - What Country Are You?" blah, blah, blah...They are funny though...you gotta admit it! Just look at what it came up w/ for me...a non religious, non swimming kinda gal. I'm floating on the river (yeah that'd happen) looking for Vatican City? --- Is Vatican City even on the river? :P

You're Adventures of Huckleberry Finn!
by Mark Twain
With an affinity for floating down the river, you see things in black and white. The world is strange and new to you and the more you learn about it, the less it makes sense. You probably speak with an accent and others have a hard time understanding you and an even harder time taking you seriously. Nevertheless, your adventurous spirit is admirable. You really like straw hats.
Take the Book Quiz at the Blue Pyramid.

You're Vatican City!
You're pretty sure that you're infallible in all that you do or say, and it's hard to say whether you're right. You have a lot of followers, most of whom will do whatever you say without question, or line up to see you ride around in your spiffy car. Religious and reserved, you have some wisdom, but also a bit much contempt for everyone around you. You're also fabulously wealthy, no matter what you say to the contrary.
Take the Country Quiz at the Blue Pyramid.

In progress
03.01.04 (8:20 am) [edit]
Here I am again, surprise, surprise! Below is a pic of my sweetie bringing me balloons and being shocked to see me with a camera in hand. I wasn't expecting the balloons, I was just planning on taking a pic of my "in progress" cross stitch to show San that yes I am working on it.
Here are 2 shots of my work, sorry for the glare... I'll have to work on my camera techniques. These were taken last Thursday, as of today I have all the top border filled in and the "B" and "L" filled in. I'll try to post that pic later.

I prefer a hoop and the one in the pics is my favorite kind, easy to use and move around.
As I was working on this piece I realized that I had made a huge mistake somewhere and I had to do some creative stitching to cover it up later on, but I think it will be fine. This is the first project I've done in years so I'm not surprised that I have mistakes. I'm just glad it's on something like this where I can "cover it up" Unlike another project I started (and dropped to do this one) where if I made this kind of mistake I'd want to burn the project or start from scratch.
